ENJOY THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE, FOR ONE DAY YOU WILL LOOK BACK AND REALIZE THEY WERE THE BIG THINGS…
Zoetendal Wine Farm is located near the picturesque missionary village of Elim and 30 kilometres from Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The farm is situated on the banks of the Nuwejaars River, providing it with one of the most exceptional views and peaceful atmospheres.
The winery was first established in 2004 by Johan de Kock and in 2015 the Becker family of six made Zoetendal Wine Farm their new home and transformed it into a Trading Post. The family moved from Upington to Zoetendal Wine Farm. Jan, the father of the family, grew up in the Kalahari and after 50 years, searched for greener grazing grounds. Christine, the mother, was a teacher. She now runs the Trading Post which includes a Tasting Room for Wine and Beer, a Farm Stall, Coffee Shop and Deli.
Two cultivars of vines are grown on the farm, namely Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. The majority of the grapes are sold to various wine makers who discovered the uniqueness of Elim Vines. In 2017, after tasting wines from all the wine makers, we asked Trizanne Barnard to make some Sauvignon Blanc under the Zoetendal Wines trademark. It was a great success. In 2018 we asked her to make a Zyrah, a single block Reserve that we are looking forward to stock in our winery. In 2018 for the first time we decided to make a Rose from the Syrah. We asked Winemaker CP Conradie to take up the challenge and he produced a Rose that is worth a visit to Zoetendal Wine Farm for a tasting.
Originally Becker’s Craft Beer produce four flavours of beer namely a Stout, Weiss, American and Indian Pale Ale. The Beer is named after each of the four children. Solly Stout is an Oatmeal Stout and the dark colour is provided by the Brown Malt, Roasted Barley Malt and Chocolate Malt with a hint of chocolate. Mike Weiss is a fruity beer with hints of citrus, such as orange and lemon – it’s a firm favourite among the ladies. Named after the twins Jana and Christine, the brewery produces two types of Pale Ale; the American Pale Ale with a refreshing amber colour and a citrus-laden hop aroma, and the Indian Pale Ale, for the more daring Craft Beer Lover ! On public demand we also started making a Lite Lager. An American style lager with rich honey aroma and little hops.
